The New Kids
In 2004, Tomes moved to South Florida and for the 2nd time took a brand new program to state powerhouse in unprecedented time.
Working at Jensen Beach High School. While only there for two seasons, the Falcons landed 11 state qualifiers in two years with four place-winners, two finalists and a state champion; the first for the new school in any sport. The team also won a pair of FHSAAA District Titles, a Treasure Coash Conference Title and several large tournament team championships.
The success at JBHS was accomplished amidst the toughest of schedules. In 2006, JBHS wrestlers took on 44 of the state's 84 finalists, along with another 12 from other states; a whopping 56 wrestlers that were among the top 2 in their respective states. In 2006, JBHS would win a district title and notch a pair of dual meet wins over eventual state team champion Jupiter Christian. The Falcons made the state's top ten in year two.
While at Jensen Beach, Tomes was named the Scripps Coach of the Year in 2006 and honored by Sports Illustrated as their National Coach of Influence in 2005.
